Newton, MA - On Saturday January 14th, Lasell College senior men's basketball player Javon Williams topped the 1,500 career point mark in a Lasers 89-77 victory over Suffolk University. Williams reached his milestone by making a short jumper with 10:16 remaining in the second half, getting fouled and tacking on the free throw to complete the three point play for good measure.
This was the second major milestone for Williams this season, as he also became the first men's basketball player in Lasell history to score 1,000 points in GNAC regular season contests, passing the mark in a 77-62 victory over Anna Maria College on December 10th.
Heading into tonight's match-up vs. Suffolk University, Williams has 1,563 points, placing him ninth on the GNAC all-time scoring list. Williams is currently 14th in career rebounding in GNAC history, tallying 645 through his three and a half year career. Williams became only the seventh men's basketball player in GNAC history to score more than 1,500 career points while also pulling down more than 500 career rebounds.
One of the more prolific players in Lasell College men's basketball history, Williams is currently third on the program's all-time scoring and rebounding lists. He trails Jamie Crawford '08 by 28 points for second on the career scoring list, behind all-time leading scorer Jose Guitian '09 who tallied 1,911 points in his Lasers career.
Head coach Aaron Galletta, who recruited the Mattapan, Mass native has been pleased with the development Javon has shown throughout his career.
"Javon has worked very hard over his four years. He has constantly worked to develop other aspects of his game and is a complete player. Being able to knock down the perimeter shot to go along with his ability to score in the post makes him a tough matchup for opponents. He has been a leader on and off the court and he will be key to any success we have the rest of the season."
Williams is on track to graduate in May with his bachelor's degree in communications.
