FH: Lasers defeat Amcats

Newton, MA

The Lasell University field hockey team defeated the Anna Maria Amcats 5-1 Saturday afternoon at Grellier Field. The win moves the Lasers to 8-4 on the season and 6-1 in conference play. The loss moves the Amcats to 3-8 on the year.

The Lasers got on the board early in the first quarter when Sheridan Blaha (Waltham, MA) beat her defender and shot the ball into the net. Two minutes later, Sage Dodier (Amesbury, MA) would score and make it 2-0.

Lasell would add to their lead in the 18th minute when Lily Stark (Saco, ME) shot the ball towards the net. The Amcats goalie saved the shot, but the rebound fell to the feet of Sheridan Blaha. Blaha then shot the ball into the net to make it 3-0 in favor of Lasell. 

When the halftime whistle blew, it was 3-0 Lasell.

The scoring continued for Lasell in the 3rd quarter. In the 38th minute, Sheridan Blaha had a breakaway opportunity. She only had the goalie to beat. She shot the ball, but the goalie batted the ball away and the rebound found its way to Lily Stark. Stark then shot the ball into the net to make it 4-0. 

The Amcats would get one back in the 40th minute when Madison-Marie Romano (Lebanon, ME) was able to get a shot past the defense and into the net. 

The Lasers would get their last goal of the match in the 56th minute when Stark intercepted a clearance pass by the Amcats defender. Stark who now had the ball, shot it from inside the circle and was able to find the back of the net. 

When the final whistle blew, Lasell was on top 5-1.

Courtney Tello (Nashua, NH) started the game for the Lasers but did not record a save. Abby Boudreau (Wakefield, MA) then entered the game and she recorded three saves.  

The Lasers are back in action on Wednesday as they travel to Nashua NH to take on Rivier at 5 p.m. 

The Amcats are back in action on Wednesday as well when they host Regis at 4 p.m.
