FH: Lasers fall short on road to GNAC foe Colby-Sawyer

New London, N.H. - The Lasell Field Hockey team faced off against GNAC opponent Colby-Sawyer in New London, New Hampshire on Saturday. The Lasers fell short to the Colby-Sawyer Chargers 5-3.

Both teams were held scoreless in the first quarter of the contest with each team putting up three shot attempts at the net. It wasn't until Lasers senior Sage Dodier (Amesbury, Mass.) got her first goal of the season early in the second quarter after a broken penalty corner in which Dodier netted the ball into the goal to put the Lasers up 1-0. The Chargers could not get anything to go into the net in the second quarter despite firing off 10 shot attempts thanks to the phenomonal goaltending from Courtney Tello (Nashua, N.H), who converted 8 saves in the quarter.

As the second half rolled around, Colby-Sawyer would start its offensive explosion. First, Calie Sorenson (Sandwich, Mass.) would put them on the board with an assist from Aoife Daly (Harwich, Mass.) in the first minute of the third quarter. Then, Daly would get on the board with the assist from Sorenson to put the Chargers up 2-1. Then, the Lasers would tie it up on a fast-break opportunity when Kaitlin Bedell (Londonderry, N.H) would net her first goal of the year off the assist from Lily Stark (Saco, Maine). Colby-Sawyer would respond with a goal of their own after executing from a penalty corner 30 seconds later. Aleah Murph (Portland, Maine) would score the goal from the help of Taylor Gaudette (North Conway, N.H) to put them up 3-2. Another minute later, the Sorenson and Daly connection would work again as Sorenson would get the goal off an assist from Daly.

Lasell was not going to go away easily as Sheridan Blaha (Waltham, Mass.) would score her 9th goal of the season off of a Bedell assist to cut it to 3-4. Then, with a few minutes remaining, Gaudette would close out the contest with a goal of her own, which was assisted by Daly. The Chargers would defeat Lasell 5-3.

Tello had 11 saves for the Lasers while Lauren Wilkinson (Lynn, Mass.) had 8 for the Chargers.

Lasell is now 4-3 overall on the season and 2-1 in conference play. Colby-Sawyer moves to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

The Lasers are back in action on the road Tuesday afternoon when they face non-conference opponent Gordon College in Wenham, Mass. Meanwhile, the Chargers travel to Nashua, NH. to take on Rivier University Wednesday night.
