FH: Rivier upends Lasell in key GNAC game; Horrigan scores goal for Lasers

NASHUA, N.H. – Freshman Hunter Langley (Londonderry, N.H.) scored two goals and junior Nicole Mansfield (Acton, Mass.) tallied three assists Saturday afternoon as Rivier University defeated Lasell University, 4-1, in a key Great Northeast Athletic Center (GNAC) field hockey game at Joanne Merrill Field.

The Lasers drop to 8-9 overall and 4-3 in GNAC play, while Rivier improves to 6-9 overall and 3-4 in conference play. Each team has one game to play in the regular season.

Both teams scored in the first three minutes of the game. Freshman Madison Streeter (Westminster, Vt.) put in the first goal for Rivier, assisted by Mansfield, on the game's first shot two minutes in, and junior Megan Horrigan (Wakefield, Mass.) answered for Lasell 57 seconds later, assisted by senior Sam Taylor (Hanover, Mass.).

Langley scored the next two goals for the home team with assists from Mansfield, the first midway through the second period and the next midway through the third. Sophomore Lia Yohanan (Andover, N.J.) added an insurance goal for Rivier with 15 seconds left in the third period, snuffing out any momentum for the Lasers.

Lasell finished with a slight 11-10 advantage in shots, and a 10-5 margin on penalty corners. Sophomre Katie Olson (Saugus, Mass.) earned the win in goal for the Raiders, making six saves,

Both teams wrap up the regular season this Wednesday, October 30, was Lasell hosts Simmons University (7-10, 4-3 GNAC) at Grellier Field at 3 p.m., and Rivier is at Anna Maria College at 4:30 p.m.
