FH: Lasell defeats Anna Maria in Double-Overtime 2-1; Taylor scores game-winner

NEWTON, Mass. – Senior Sam Taylor (Hanover, Mass.) scored two goals, including the game-winner with six minutes left in the second overtime as Lasell University defeated the Anna Maria College Amcats 2-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match on Saturday afternoon.

The Lasers improve their record to 3-6 and the Amcats drop to 4-6.

Lasell dominated most of the game with 18 shots and eight of them on target. The Amcats only totaled five shots with three of them on frame. The Lasers outshot their opponent 8-1 in the first half but couldn't find the back of the net.

Sophomore Sofia Rodriguez (Peabody, Mass.) was solid in goal as she recorded the win with two key saves. Taylor led the offense for the Lasers with seven shots on goal and both goals in the match.

The first half ended in a 0-0 tie due to the defensive efforts on both sides.

The Amcats scored first two minutes in to the third quarter, with a goal from sophomore Abigayle Celata (Baldwinville, Mass.).

The Lasers found their offense early into the fourth quarter when Taylor passed a defender and took a shot on net to tie the game at 1-1.

With the score knotted up at 1-1 at the end of regulation, the teams entered double overtime. Taylor ended the game with her fifth goal on the season.

The Lasers will play next on Wednesday, October 2 at home against Roger Williams University. The Amcats will return to the field on Tuesday October 1 to play at New England College.
