FH: Lasell falls to Colby-Sawyer in overtime

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Lasell University women's field hockey team suffered its second straight overtime loss on Saturday afternoon against Colby-Sawyer College, 3-2, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest at the Veitch Turf Field.

The loss drops the Lasers to an overall record of 2-5 and a 1-1 conference record. Colby-Sawyer improves to 2-4 and 1-0 in conference.

Senior Sam Taylor (Hanover, Mass) and junior Rebecca Duke (Ijamsville, Md.) scored the lone goals for the Lasers in the loss. Taylor also recorded an assist in the game.

The Chargers scored in the first quarter on a goal by Sarah Morin (Pelham, N.H.) but the Lasers answered right back in the second quarter when Duke scored with an assist from Taylor to even the score at 1-1. Taylor would go on to give the Lasers the lead in the third almost halfway through the quarter.

The Chargers found the back of the net with the game-tying goal by senior Alie Jones (Cape Neddick, Maine) with about 10 minutes left to play in regulation. With a few minutes remaining, Lasers goalie Sydney Pignone (Ipswich, Mass.) made a save to force the game into overtime.

Nine minutes into overtime, Colby-Sawyer's Aoife Daly (Harwich, Mass.) scored the game-winner to top the Lasers 3-2.

The Chargers bettered the Lasers with 12 shots on goal while the visitors managed only six shots on goal. Pignone finished with nine saves for Lasell while CSC's Abby Ladd made four stops.

Lasell will play its next competition at Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Tuesday, September 24 at 4:30 p.m. The Chargers find their next game to be home against New England College on Wednesday, September 25 at 3:30 p.m.
