FH: UMass Dartmouth nips Lasell in overtime

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Junior Brittany Perry (North Dighton, Mass.) provided the golden goal 1:59 into overtime Thursday evening to lift UMass Dartmouth to a 2-1 non-league college field hockey victory over Lasell University at Cressy Field.

Perry converted a crossing pass from the right side from sophomore Kylie Dias (Fall River, Mass.) on the game-winner for the host Corsairs (1-3), who took a 1-0 advantage 6:05 into the second quarter when sophomore Lydia Stormwind (Littleton, Mass.) knocked in a Dias feed from in front of the cage.

The visiting Lasers (2-4) evened matters with 2:57 remaining in the third stanza when senior Izzy Contois (Conway, Mass.) scored on a feed from senior Sam Taylor (Hanover, Mass.) from 10 yards out, and that margin held up until Perry's heroics in the extra session.

Junior Katelyn Banalewicz (Fall River, Mass.) picked up the win in goal with an 11-save effort in net for UMass Dartmouth, while junior Sydney Pignone (Ipswich, Mass.) made four stops in the setback for Lasell.  The Lasers outshot the Corsairs by an 18-8 margin overall (13-6 on goal) and held an 8-5 edge in penalty corners for the contest.

UMass Dartmouth heads to Keene, N.H. on Saturday afternoon to square off with Keene State in a Little East Conference match beginning at 1:30 pm, while Lasell travels to New London, N.H. on Saturday afternoon for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference clash with Colby-Sawyer that begins at noon.
