FH: Nichols doubles up Lasell; Taylor and Shepherd score for Lasers

NEWTON, Mass. – Junior Dana Edwards and freshman Mackenzie Doran scored two goals apiece Saturday afternoon as Nichols College defeated Lasell University, 4-2, in non-conference field hockey action at Grellier Field. Nichols improves to 2-1 while Lasell drops to 1-2.

The Lasers came back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game as senior Sam Taylor (Hanover, Mass.) scored on a penalty stroke in the second quarter and junior Claire Shepherd (Huntington Beach, Calif.) evened the score early in the third quarter, tipping in a feed from senior Izzy Contois (Conway, Mass.) on the back post.

Duran answered with consecutive goals in the third quarter for Nichols to give the Bison back their two goal lead. That wrapped up the scoring as each team managed just one shot in the fourth quarter.. Edwards scored once in the first two frames to put the visitors ahead early on.

Lasell finished with a 16-14 advantage in shots, and a 10-6 margin in penalty corners. Junior Sydney Pignone (Ipswich, Mass.) made four saves for the Lasers in the first three quarters, and sophomore Sofia Rodriguez (Peabody, Mass.) came on for the fourth quarter. Senior Brooke Misbach turned aside seven shots for Nichols.

The Lasers return to action with a non-conference affair on Thursday, September 12, at MIT at 6 p.m. Nichols returns home to host Anna Maria College Thursday at 7 p.m.
