BB: Lasers Take Both Games vs Dean

Waltham, MA - The Lasell University baseball team completed a doubleheader sweep of Dean College on Friday evening winning the pair of games 5-3 and 16-3.

Game 1

The Bulldogs came out of the gate scoring two runs in the first inning off Lasers starter Owen Caldwell. In the bottom of the inning, they would get one run back from a Declan Silva RBI single to right field. It was Silva again in the third inning who provided his second RBI of the game, scoring Ross Audet. A Connor Freitas sacrifice fly would follow to bring in CJ Mills from third and put the Lasers in front 3-2. Dean would find an equalizer in the fourth, with some smart base running and headed into the bottom of the sixth, the score remained tied at 3-3. Christopher Bulk then came to bat with a man on second, and launched his fourth homerun ball on the year to give the Lasers the 5-3 lead. The Lasers leaned on Zachary Simone down the stretch as he provided 3 1/3 innings of relief pitching, allowing no hits and striking out five batters. Shutting down the Bulldogs offense for the remainder of the game, the Lasers took the 5-3 game one win.

Game 2

The Lasers found themselves in a similar spot as game one, where after two scoreless innings, the Bulldogs put three runs on the board in the third giving them the first lead. The Lasers offense then exploded in the next three innings as they put up all of their 16 runs in this span. It started in the third, where they erased the Bulldog lead and got in front 4-3. The fourth inning saw two more Laser runs come across but the fifth inning is where the Lasers did their damage. In a 10-run fifth inning, the Lasers batted around twice and posted five extra base hits. Scott Lyon also added a 2-run shot which is now his fourth homer of the season. The Bulldogs weren't able to recover from this and the Lasers posted the 16-3 victory in 7-innings.

Starting pitchers Owen Caldwell and Jeremy Blackwood would both improve to 3-0 records as a starter following their outings Friday. Between the two games Tim Callahan, Scott Lyon, and Connor Freitas posted 4 RBIs each and various other Lasers added extra base hits and RBIs.

Up Next - The Lasers will be home again on Sunday with a non-conference doubleheader against the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs.
