Waltham, MA - The Lasell University baseball team played conference opponent Albertus Magnus on Monday afternoon at Brandeis' Stein Diamond. They continued their hot-hitting streak and used three more home runs to fuel a 13-2 defeat of the Falcons in 7-innings.
Coming into Monday's game, the Lasers were winners of five in a row and looking to extend that streak. In the bottom of the first, they wasted no time getting runs on the board with a Connor Freitas RBI single providing the first score. Shortly thereafter, with 2 outs and the bases loaded, Jared Whitby delivered a bases-clearing double down the right field line and upped the lead to 4-0. Whitby got driven in the play after on a Bobby Long single and Christopher Bulk would homer the following at-bat which resulted in a 7-run first inning for the Lasers. The next inning, it was Connor Freitas who added another two scores, on another homerun over the leftfield fence as the lead grew to 9-0. In the fourth, the Falcons had some opportunities to cut into the Laser lead, but pitcher Matthew Fletcher limited the damage to only two runs, getting out of a bases-loaded jam. A few innings later in the 7th, the Lasers had two base runners and the opportunity to close out the game. CJ Mills then came to the plate and saw his pitch which he drove and sent over the fence, which would give the Lasers a 13-2 win in 7-innings.
With Mills, Bulk, and Freitas all homering, it was the second game of the year where the Lasers as a team have had three or more home runs. They are now up to 12 total blasts and continue to generate offense with the power-hitting. Matthew Fletcher also earned his fourth win which improved his record to 4-0. Zach Simone also provided 3 innings of relief pitching allowing just two hits and no earned runs.
Up Next - The Lasers are back in action Tuesday afternoon, traveling to New London, CT for a 3:30 game against the Mariners of Mitchell College.
