BSB: Lasell Falls to Bears in Non-Conference Matchup

Bridgewater, MA – The Lasell University baseball team dropped a non-conference game to the Bridgewater State Bears on Thursday evening, 20-7. The loss drops the Lasers to 21-14 on the season while the Bears move to 17-13.

Lasell got on the board in the first inning as CJ Mills walked to begin the game and stole both second and third, which allowed Ross Audet to bring him in on a groundball that got by the third baseman. Audet would later score on a single from Brad Edwards to give Lasell a 2-0 lead.

Bridgewater State got on the board in the third inning as a double from Kevin Lindsay scored Scott Emerson. Two errors and a wild pitch would score three more runs in the inning, giving the bears a 4-2 lead. In the fourth, Lindsay would bring in another run on a single to left field. Two batters later, Steve Simon doubled to left, scoring another run and right after him Jay Wladkowski singled up the middle to score Simon making it a 7-2 game.

Lasell would grab two more runs in the fifth as Scott Lyon singled to center field with runners on second and third to bring the lasers within three. The Bears would make it a four-run game in the fifth as a sacrifice fly to left field brought in another run.

Bridgewater broke it open in the sixth as back-to-back singles from Simon and DJ Pamprin scored three runs. A double with the bases loaded from Joe Frechette brought in all three base runners making it a 10-run ballgame.

The Bears would add six more runs in the seventh on six hits and one error, making it a 20-4 game.

Lasell would get three runs back in the eighth when Jonah Nielsen doubled down the left field line scoring Pierce Clare from second. The next batter, Tyler DiNezza grounded a ball to second base to score Jeremy Angeles. Nielsen then scored on a passed ball making it 20-7.

Justin Lowden (0-2) got the start for Lasell and received the loss. He threw a total of three innings, allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits while walking one and striking out two.

Offensively for the Lasers, Edwards singled twice and drove in a run, Lyon singled and drove in two runs. Nielsen doubled and drove in a run and Clare, Angeles, Tim Callahan, Jared Whitby, and Peter German all singled.

 

Up Next: The Lasers travel to Providence, Rhode Island on Saturday for a GNAC doubleheader with Johnson and Wales. First pitch of game one is slated for 1:00 PM.
