NEWTON, Mass. – Three Lasell College student-athletes were honored Monday by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) for their performances in the first week of the spring sports season.

Sophomore Andrew Fidalgo (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug) and freshman Max Litchfield (Barrington, N.H./Oyster River) were named GNAC Men's Lacrosse Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, and freshman Matt Motyka (Vernon, Conn./Cheney Tech) was selected GNAC Baseball Rookie of the Week. The Laser trio were honored as the Lasell men's lacrosse and baseball team started the season with a combined 3-0 record.

A sophomore attackman, Fidalgo tallied three goals and one assist in Lasell's only game, a 12-10 non-conference win over MIT. His first goal tied the game at 4-4 with four seconds left in the first quarter, and his next two goals came in the fourth quarter as Lasell rallied from behind with seven consecutive goals. He also picked up two ground balls and caused one turnover.

A rookie midfielder, Litchfield scored two goals in Lasell's victory over MIT. His first goal tied the game at 2-2 midway through the first quarter, and his second tied the game at 8-8 early in the fourth quarter as Lasell continued the second-half comeback to defeat the Engineers.

The Laser men's lax team, 1-0, has a pair of non-conference games slated for this week, weather and field conditions permitting – Wednesday, March 6, at Roger Williams University (4 p.m.) and Saturday, March 9, at Grellier Field against Plymouth State University (1 p.m.)

A freshman designated hitter/infielder, Motyka went 3-for-5 with three runs batted in on Saturday as Lasell swept Newbury College in its season-opening doubleheader, 9-2 and 11-1. He was 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly in the opener, and went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored in the nightcap.

The Laser baseball squad, 2-0, will take a 10-game spring break trip to Fort Myers, Florida, beginning next week; the first two games are next Sunday, March 10, against Wisconsin Lutheran College in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.
