Baseball Downs Plymouth State 9-7

FORT MYERS, Fla. (3/18/16) – The Lasell baseball team downed the Panthers of Plymouth State University 9-7 on Friday morning at Terry Park. Lasell improves drops to 3-5 overall while P-State moves to 5-7.

Junior Hector Coscione (Newton, Mass.) batted a perfect 4-for-4 in the winning effort, recording an RBI and a tremendous three stolen bases. Freshman Brett Sherron (Howard Beach, N.Y.) knocked in three runs with a pair of doubles, while seniors Wes Hurty (Windsor, Conn.) and Matt Haskell (Wallingford, Conn.) along with freshman Greg Camarda (Massapequa, N.Y.) registered ribbies in the W.

Despite the deficit, sophomore Luke Mancini (Scotia, N.Y.) blasted a two-run homer to left field, joining Josh Goulet (Nashua, N.H.), Jarek Krajewski (Cranston, R.I.), and Nate Frederick (Worcester, Mass.) in runs knocked in for the Panthers.

Lasell got on the board first in the opening two innings, as an RBI single by Coscione, a Hurty sac fly, and a Sherron/Haskell double granted the Lasers the 5-0 start. The Panthers tacked their first on a sac fly to center by Goulet, before a pair of errors by the third baseman gave P-State two more, 5-3. Mancini then swung into a two-run homer in the bottom of the 7th to knot the game, 5-5.

Sherron swung into his second double of the day, driving in Coscione and senior Tyler Flaherty (Portland, Maine) for the go-ahead, and was then brought back home by Camarda on a groundout to the pitcher in the eighth. The Panthers attempted a late-game rally, however a final strikeout by Coscione on the mound granted Lasell the 9-7 final.

Coscione earned the save in the outing, as junior Dan Berger (Meriden, Conn.) notched the win for his second of the year. Connor MacRaoe suffered the loss for Plymouth State, allowing four runs, three earned, with four batters walked in 2.1 innings tossed.
