Fifth Inning Rally Sends Framingham Past Baseball 8-3

Northboro, Mass. – The Framingham State University baseball team pushed across four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to erase a 3-1 deficit and take the lead for good as they defeated Lasell College 8-3 this evening in non-conference action at the New England Baseball Complex.   

With the win, the Lasers drop to 4-8 while the Rams improve to 9-5 on the year,.

The Lasers took the lead in the top of the fourth inning when they cranked out with three runs gain a 3-0 advantage over the Flyers. Junior Tyler Flaherty (Portland, Maine) plated a pair with a two RBI double and freshman Jesse Tejero (West Haven, Conn.) scored the third run with an RBI via a fielder's choice.  

The Rams got one back in the bottom of the inning when senior Billy Derosier (Shrewsbury, Mass.) hit into a fielder's choice that allowed classmate Matt Gerard (Milford, Mass.) to score from second.  
Framingham State tied the game and took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Junior Jake Wardwell (Hudson, Mass.) pulled the Rams within one with a sacrifice bunt that scored junior R.J. Gray (Lowell, Mass.) from third.  Senior Kevin Driscoll (Chelmsford, Mass.) scampered home on a wild pitch and senior Ivan Colon (Waltham, Mass) plated two with a double up the middle.

The Rams capped the scoring with one in the sixth on an RBI double from freshman Jordan Pallazola (Rockport, Mass.) and two more in the bottom of the eighth including one on an error in the Lasell outfield and one on a Gerard double.

Junior Chris Monroe (Ayer, Mass.) earned the victory on the hill going six innings and allowing three unearned runs on eight hits. Gary Trottier suffered the loss for Lasell going five innings and allowing five runs, three earned, on four hits with four strikeouts.

 
The Lasers open their Great Northeast Athletic Conference schedule tomorrow with a pair of road games at St. Joseph's (Me.) beginning at 2:00 p.m., while the Rams are back in action at 10:00 a.m. on Friday morning when they host MCLA in a MASCAC doubleheader.
