Five Lasers Earn All-GNAC Baseball Honors

NEWTON, Mass. (4/28/14) – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference baseball coaches recognized six members of the Lasell College baseball team for their contributions to the Lasers baseball program during the 2014 season. Billy Uberti (Newton, Mass.) was named to the All-GNAC Second team as an infielder, along with  Kevin Post (Cromwell, Conn.) as a utility player and Dan Gagnon (Pomfret Center, Conn.) as an infielder. Wes Hurty (Windsor, Conn.) was selected to the All-GNAC Third team as a catcher and Hector Coscione (Newton, Mass.) joined Hurty as a third team infield selection. Bobby Ellard (Medfield, Mass.) was honored as a member of the GNAC Sportsmanship team. The baseball program finished 18-12, the best winning percentage in the program history and advanced to the GNAC tournament Final Four for the second consecutive season.

Uberti, a first baseman, finished the season hitting .310 with a .391 on base percentage, with 22 runs scored and 15 driven in. He finished with a .983 fielding percentage, committing only four errors on 231 total chances. Uberti was named to the third team following his junior campaign.

Post, a junior, was named as the utility player on the All-GNAC second team after being deployed as a pitcher, left fielder and designated hitter throughout the season. He finished 4-0 in five starts for Lasell, throwing 21 innings on the season and posting a 7.71 strikeout per nine inning ratio. At the plate he batted .303 with a .380 on base percentage and a .404 slugging percentage while hitting a pair of home runs, scoring 15 runs and driving in 10.

Gagnon, a sophomore shortstop hit .340 on the season as he became the third member of the Lasers to earn second team honors. He hit .340 on the season with a .410 on base percentage and a .437 slugging percentage while knocking in 16 runs and scoring 16 as well. He tied for the team lead in stolen bases with seven while collecting a team-high eight doubles overall.

Sophomore Wes Hurty was selected as a All-GNAC third team honoree as a catcher following a strong season behind the plate. Hurty hit .284 with a .358 on base percentage while also posting a stellar season defensively. He threw out 10 of the 33 runners who attempted to steal on him, while only committing two errors in 133 total chances.

Freshmen Hector Coscione was named to the All-GNAC Third team as an infielder, driving in a team-high 23 runs while hitting .326 on the season with a .385 on base percentage and slugging percentage of .421. Coscione joined Gagnon with seven stolen bases w\hile scoring 16 runs and notching seven doubles.

Senior outfielder Bobby Ellard was named to the GNAC Sportsmanship team following the final year of his Lasell career. Ellard finished second on the team with 18 runs scored while driving in 15 runs and hitting .292 on the season.
