East Providence, R.I. -- The Johnson & Wales University baseball team swept Lasell in a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference contests at Pierce Field on Saturday afternoon.  The Wildcats posted a 7-3 win in the opener and finished the sweep with a 10-1 win in the nightcap. 

In the opener, Lasell took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when sophomore Billy Uberti (Newton, Mass.) doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by senior Josh Sullivan (Rockland, Mass.).  JWU responded in the bottom of the frame when they capitalized on a Lasell miscue and pushed a pair of runs across for the 2-1 lead. The visiting Lasers tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the third on a run scoring groundout by Sullivan.  JWU broke the game open in the bottom of the third when junior Pete Rosa (Ambler, Pa.) and sophomore Jake Dickerson (Garnet Valley, Pa.) drew back-to-back walks with the bases loaded.  An RBI sacrifice bunt by junior Tyler Newell (Westerly, R.I.) gave the Wildcats the 5-2 advantage  JWU extended their lead to 7-2 in the bottom of the fifth on RBI singles by Radu and Newsome.  An RBI single by Lasell junior Chris Pittman (Brockton, Mass.) made the score 7-3, but it would not be enough as JWU took the 7-3 victory.  Junior Brian Olofson (Highlands, N.J.) went 3-for-4 with a run scored for the Wildcats while Newsome was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in the victory.  Senior Matt Mahoney (Rockland, Mass.) had a pair of hits for the Lasers.  Wood picked up the win on the mound, giving up three runs on six hits in five and a third innings of work.

Once again Lasell took the lead in the first on an RBI single by senior Conor Cavanaugh (Quincy, Mass.).  JWU knotted the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by junior James Reyes (Providence, R.I.).  The Wildcats took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the second on a three-run double by Newsome.  JWU added two in the fourth and cruised to the 10-1 win with four runs in the sixth, including a two-run double by Olofson.  Newsome went 2-for-2 with two runs and four RBI while Olofson was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI for the Wildcats.  MacKay notched the complete-game victory, allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts.
