Waltham, MA – The Lasell College baseball team fell in seven innings last night to the University of Maine-Presque Isle, 13-3 at Stein Diamond on the campus of Brandeis University. Prior to the start of the game the Lasers honored six seniors for their contributions to the Lasell College baseball program. Matt Mahoney (Rockland, MA), Carlton Lentini (Wilmington, MA), Patrick Girard (Stonington, CT), Joshua Sullivan (Rockland, MA), and Conor Cavanagh (Quincy, MA) were all recognized for their involvement in the program.

The first two innings of the game rolled right along and only saw one hit, which belonged to the Lasers. In the top of the fourth the Owls opened up the scoring by capitalizing on a crucial two out error by Lasell. The University of Maine-Presque Isle received RBI's from Jordan Duffy Fort Augustus P.E.I., Canada), Carlos Villoria (Caracas, Venezuela), and Ted Walker (Caribou, ME) to take a 4-0 lead.

The Owls nine more runs over the next three innings, including a five run outburst in the top half of the fifth inning. Justin Bergeron (Tiverton, RI), Cam Morrell (Harpswell, ME), Duffy, Villoria, and Walker all chipped in with RBI's in that span.

Lasell finally got on the board in the bottom of the seventh by scoring three runs. Billy Uberti (Newton, MA) struck an RBI single that scored Sullivan. The next two Laser hitters, Cavanagh and Mahoney, registered RBI's. Cavanagh ripped an RBI triple and later scored on an RBI single by Mahoney to make it 13-3. However, the three runs came too late as the Lasers suffered a 13-3 loss at the hands of the Owls.

Dylan Worster (Howland, ME), 3-0, notched the win on the hill for the Owls. Worster hurled a seven inning complete game, while only allowing three runs and striking out four.

Lasell starting pitcher David Long (Brookfield, CT), 1-2, took the loss in three innings of work. Long surrendered four runs, all unearned, on three hits while striking out four.

Mahoney and Sullivan led the Lasers at the plate with multiple hits, two and three respectively. Mahoney also recorded a stolen base in the loss.

The Lasers' record falls to 11-24 with the loss, while the Owls improve to 7-21 on the season. Lasell returns to action today in doubleheader action on the road against Great Northeast Athletic Conference opponent Johnson & Wales beginning at 1 p.m. The University of Maine-Presque Isle travels today to face Vermont Tech in a doubleheader, also beginning at 1 p.m.
