Waltham, MA – The Lasell College baseball team faced off against the Rams of Framingham State University Tuesday night at Stein Diamond in Waltham, MA on the campus of Brandeis University. A late ninth inning rally brought the game to within one run, but the Lasers fell short in an 8-7 loss against the Rams.

Framingham State took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning on a Pedro Acevedo (Fall River, MA) RBI single, but Lasell was able to answer with two runs of its own in the home half of the inning to grab a 2-1 lead. Joshua Sullivan (Rockland, MA) reached on an error by the Rams, and as a result David Long (Brookfield, CT) and Matt Mahoney (Rockland, MA) crossed the plate for the Lasers.

The Rams looked to have complete control of the game after scoring three runs in the third and another three runs in the fourth to push the lead to 7-2. Ivan Colon (Waltham, MA), Will Crofton (Hopkinton, MA), and Acevedo all contributed with RBI's in the two inning outburst by Framingham State.

Lasell narrowed its deficit to 7-6 in the bottom of the fifth inning by tallying four runs in the frame. Bobby Stachura (Middletown, CT) worked a bases loaded walk, forcing in Corey Michel (Rochester, NH) to start off the scoring. After a wild pitch to two of the next three hitters, the Lasers narrowed the gap to two. Lasell made it a one run game, when Chris Williams (Hingham, MA) reached on an error, scoring Stachura.

Colon added an RBI single for the Rams in the top of the eighth inning increasing the lead to 8-6.

Conor Cavanagh (Quincy, MA) struck a leadoff single in the bottom of the ninth. Stachura followed with a single of his own to give the Lasers runners on first and second with no outs.

Christopher Pittman (Brockton, MA) reached on a fielder's choice, and a Rams error brought home Cavanagh. However, Lasell was unable to produce any more runs in the ninth and suffered an 8-7 defeat.

Framingham State starting pitcher Felipe Barahona (Lynn, MA), 2-0, notched the win for the Rams. Barahona went five innings on the hill, giving up six runs (three earned) on five hits and striking out six.

Sullivan (0-2) took the loss for the Lasers going four innings while allowing seven runs (four earned) on seven hits.

Greg Sherman (Marshfield, MA) pitched well for Lasell in relief, throwing five innings while only allowing one run (zero earned) on four hits and striking out four.

Sullivan and Billy Uberti (Newton, MA) both chipped in with two hits for Lasell in the game. Sullivan also registered a stolen base.

The Lasers will return to action Thursday night against the Vikings of Salem State University in a 7:00 p.m. start at Stein Diamond on the campus of Brandeis University.
