Lasers Sweep Trailblazers on the Road, 13-7 and 9-0

North Adams, MA – The Lasell College baseball team traveled to Joe Wolfe Field in North Adams, MA on Saturday afternoon and came away with a two game sweep over the Trailblazers of the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. Game one ended in favor of the Lasers 13-7 and it finished off the afternoon with a 9-0 shutout over the Trailblazers in game two.

Game One

In game one of the afternoon, Lasell held a 3-1 advantage through the first three innings of play before a 7 run outburst in the top half of the fourth inning. Matt Sammarco (New Canaan, CT) scored the first run of the inning after a fly out to right field by Matt Mahoney (Rockland, MA). Conor Cavanagh (Quincy, MA) kept the scoring going when he smacked a two run single to right field scoring Joshua Sullivan (Rockland, MA) and Corey Michel (Rochester, NH). The next batter in the inning, Christopher Pittman (Brockton, MA) roped an RBI double to left center field. After a pitching change, Lasell's next hitter, Billy Uberti (Newton, MA), launched a three run home run to bolster the Lasell lead to 10-1.

The Trailblazers would score five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but would fall short in a 13-7 defeat.

Dale Clark (Pittsfield, MA), 2-1, registered the loss for the Trailblazers after allowing three runs on six hits, in only three innings of work.

Matt Pitts (Stoneham, MA), 1-2, earned his first win of the season in a complete game for the Lasers.

Lasell was led by Sullivan, Cavanagh, and Uberti in game one. Sullivan was 2-for-2 with four runs scored. Cavanagh concluded the game with four RBI in a 2-for-4 performance. Uberti finished 2-for-3 in game one with three RBI, including his three run home run in the fourth inning.

Game Two

The Lasers in game two jumped out to a 5-0 lead after just two innings. Lasell collected the five run lead off of RBI's from Uberti, Michel, Cavanagh, and Bobby Stachura (Middletown, CT).

Lasell would add one run in the fourth inning, as well as another three in the top of the sixth inning which was highlighted by a Sammarco two run single to push the lead to 9-0.

Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts was unable to muster anything together in game two, and fell victim to Lasell by a final score of 9-0.

Joe Vaverka (Malden, MA), 0-1, took the loss allowing six runs (two earned) on five hits, while walking six in three and two-thirds innings of work.

Kevin Post (Cromwell, CT), 1-1, notched the win for Lasell in six shutout innings while only allowing three hits and striking out four.

Game two saw great performances from Sullivan and Cavanagh who both went 2-for-5 in the game. Sullivan also added two steals for the Lasers in the victory.

After Lasell's two victories Saturday, the team improves its record to 4-10 overall, while the two losses bring MCLA's record to 6-7 on the season.

The Lasers will travel to Commodore Hendy Field in Buzzards Bay, MA on Sunday to face Massachusetts Maritime Academy in double header action beginning at 12:00 p.m.
