Outcome Unfavorable on Day 1 in Florida for Lasell Baseball

FORT MYERS, FL- On day one of the Lasell College baseball team's spring trip to Fort Myers, FL, the Lasers were defeated 19-6 by Kenyon College in seven innings.

Kenyon built up a 7-0 lead in the top of the first inning, highlighted by a three-run homer by Jack Graham. Lasell earned one run in the bottom of the inning after Matt Mahoney (Rockland, MA) doubled into right field and Conor Cavanagh (Quincy, MA) followed with a two-bag RBI knock into right center to bring Mahoney home.

Brendan Jordan (Rocky Hill, CT) was sent to the mound in the second inning for Lasell, closing the inning without further damage.  Lasell was also held run-less in the bottom of the frame.

The Lords plated five in the third inning on three hits and three walks, bringing the score to 12-1.  After Brian Hess went down on strikes to get the first out, Jordan faced loaded bases and the heart of the order with Craig Wocl at the plate and Nate Lotze on deck.  Both batters proceeded to walk, forcing Graham and Danny Ricchetti home and giving Kenyon an 9-1 lead, with one out.  A Mike Danzinger single down the right field line batted in two more Kenyon players, giving the Lords a 10 run edge. After two more Lords crossed the plate, Jordan retired Graham on strikes to end the inning.

Between the 5th and 6th inning, Kenyon added seven runs on nine hits and two errors. Lasell matched Kenyon with four runs in the 5th, scoring the four runners on two hits and an error.  Corey Michel (Rochester, NH) reached base on a fielder's choice and Bobby Stachura (Middletown, CT) walked.  Both runners were propelled into scoring position by Matt Mahoney and another fielder's choice by William Uberti (Newton, MA) brought Michel in.  Stachura scored, unearned, after a fielding error by the Lord's first baseman allowed leeway to score and a Christopher Pittman (Brockton, MA) triple to center filed brought home Cavanaugh and Uberti, to finalize the Lasers scoring.

Matt Mahoney went 2-for-4 against the Lords, with one double and one run.  Cavanaugh and Pittman each struck with one hit and added two RBI and Uberti produced one hit, one RBI and two runs for the Lasers.

Jordan finished 3.1 innings of work with four strike outs and Mike Gunning (Randolph, MA) added two more in the final inning.

The Lasers record stands at 1-1 after the first day of competition in Florida.
