GNAC: Carroll and Nunez sweep Player of the Week honors for the Lasers

Newton, Mass. – Senior Meg Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) and Senior Kevin Nunez (Dorchester, Mass.) were named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) player of the week for their performances last week.

Carroll averaged a ridiculous 33.5 points and 17.5 rebounds, shooting 62.2% from the field (28-45) and 61.1% from the FT line (11-18) in a 2-0 week for the Lasers. In Tuesday's non-conference win over Northern Vermont at Johnson, she poured in 39 points (15-24 FG, 9-14 FT) while bringing down 20 rebounds (11 offensive). In Thursday's conference opener against Rivier, she scored 28 points (13-24 FG, 2-4 FT) and grabbed 15 rebounds (six offensive) in the victory. She also had a pair of blocks in each win.

She leads the GNAC in field goal percentage at 57.4 percent and ranks second in points per game with 23.2 and second in rebounds per game with 11.5. Carroll's 23.2 points per game places her eighth in the nation.

Nunez averaged 29 points and 10.5 rebounds, shooting 53.3 percent from the field (24-45), 50 percent from behind the arc (2-4), and 66.7 percent from the free throw line in a 2-0 week for the Lasers. In Tuesday's non-conference victory over Wheaton, he scored 24 points on 9-20 from the field and brought down seven rebounds. In the conference opening win over Rivier, he scored 34 points on 15-25 from the field and 4-5 from the free throw line, adding 14 rebounds, four steals and two blocks.

He ranks second in the GNAC in points per game at 21.2. He ranks second on the Lasers in field goal percentage at 56.1 percent and in steals per game with 2.2.

Carroll and the women's basketball team will be back in action on Thursday, December 9, when they play host to Fitchburg State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Nunez and the men's basketball team will be back in action on Tuesday, December 7, when they travel to nearby Brandeis University for a matchup with the Judges. 7:30 p.m. is the scheduled tip-off for that matchup.
