Women's Volleyball Falls in GNAC Quarterfinals at JWU
Providence, R.I. – The third seeded Johnson & Wales University women's volleyball team posted a 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-17) win against Lasell in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship at the Wildcat Center on Tuesday evening.
 
Lasell was led by freshman Abigail Rollins (North Caldwell, N.J.) with nine kills, while Sharisse Scott-Rawlins (Brockton, Mass.) and Kathy Cameron (Boston, Mass.) each chipped in with seven kills. Senior Anna Feeter (Peterboro, N.H.) had 22 assists and Jordan Seid (Rowland Hts. Calif.) in the setback for the Lasers.
In the first set, the two teams traded points throughout with the score tied 22-22 after a kill by JWU senior Ashley Rey (Miami, Fla.).  The visiting Lasers then took the last three points of the set en route to the 25-23 victory.
 
Johnson & Wales took early command of the second set and held the 13-7 advantage after a kill by senior Megan Bollerman (Mahwah, N.J.).  The Wildcats then cruised to the 25-18 win in the set to knot the match at 1-1.
 
After battling back and forth early in the third set with the score tied 11-11, JWU used a 6-1 run for the 17-12 advantage.  Lasell closed the gap to 22-19 late in the set, but it wasn't enough as JWU held on for the 25-20 win in the set.
 
Again, it was back and forth action in set four with the score tied 11-11.  The Wildcats then used an 11-3 run, capped by a kill by Rey to take the 22-14 lead en route to the 25-17 match clinching victory.
 
Junior Alyssa Drapeau (Biddeford, Maine) tallied a double-double for JWU with 17 kills and 11 digs while junior Lauren Cordts (Amherst, N.H.) was also in double-figures with 10 kill and three blocks.  Senior Kasey Higgins (Wallingford, Conn.) and sophomore Kellen Tensen (New Canaan, Conn.) combined for 42 set assists for the Wildcats. Senior Giselle Cram (Vega Alto, Puerto Rico) tallied a match-high 27 digs in the victory.
 
With the win JWU improves to 15-19 on the season while Lasell falls to 17-16 on the year.  The Wildcats will return to action on Thursday, November 7th when they travel to Emmanuel for the semifinals of the GNAC Championship at the Yawkey Center at 7:00 p.m..
