Women's Basketball falls to Albertus Magnus

Newton, MA- The Lasell College women's basketball team played host to the Falcons of Albertus Magnus in a regular season GNAC matchup Saturday afternoon. The Falcons came away with the 71-61 win to improve to 6-6 in the GNAC, and 13-10 overall. Lasell falls to 3-9 in the conference, and 3-19 overall on the season.

Alexis Chappell(Springfield, MA) led the Lasers with a double-double performance, scoring 20 points and collecting 11 rebounds. Danielle Autencio (Montville, CT) also had a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Justine Ryan(Norwood, MA) and Ashley Fry(So. Kingston, RI) added 12 points apiece as well for the Lasers.

Lindsay Karle(Wallingford, CT) led the Falcons with 20 points in the victory. Lianna Carrero (Hamden, CT) and Bianca Brown (West Haven, CT) contributed 17 points and 13 points respectively, while Brown just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. 

Albertus Magnus took a 4-0 lead at 17:16 after an Annie Raucci (Milford, CT) layup. Lasell answered with a 7-0 run to take the lead after a jumper from Justine Ryan at the 13:29 mark, but the Falcons responded with an 8-0 run to go back on top 12-7.

With 7:36 remaining, the Falcons had their biggest lead of the game at 21-12. Lasell went on an 11-2 run to tie the game with just 2:42 remaining for at 23 apiece. A Lindsay Karle three point play with just three seconds remaining gave the Falcons a three point halftime lead.

The two teams exchanged baskets throughout the first five minutes and a Justine Ryan layup gave the Lasers their first lead of the second half at 37-36 with 14:45 to play. The Falcons rallied with a 14-4 run to take a 51-42 lead with 9:37 remaining in the game.

Lasell continued to battle as the clock ran down, trailing by eight just before the three minute mark. With 1:10 left in the game, Chappell hit a layup while being fouled and scored the extra point to bring the Lasers within ten. Lasell was able to narrow the lead after layups from Chappell and Fry but the Lasers ultimately fell to the Falcons 71-61.

Lasell will play their home finale on Monday, February 13, when the Lynx of Lesley University will visit for a non-conference game at 7:00 p.m.
