SB: Raccio Grand Slam Propels Lasers Past Elms

Chicopee, MA - The Lasers travelled to Elms College for a GNAC doubleheader, Lasell dominated the Blazers winning both matches of the day. With the two wins the Lasers rise to 18-9 overall, 9-1 in conference play. 

Game 1 

The Blazers got on the board in the bottom of the first, scoring three runs on Lasell to gain an early lead. 

The Lasers picked things up in the top of the second with a five run inning. Abigail Fortin kicked things off for Lasell with an RBI single down the left field line. Ally Kirk followed up with a single to right field, sending Alyssa Bland and Fortin home to even out the score. Emily Mestas doubled to left field to send two more runs in. Another single and groundball sent in the final two runs of the inning, giving Lasell a three run lead. 

The Blazers answered immediately with four runs of their own, taking the lead back. Eryn Sheeley opened up the fourth inning with an RBI double. Sheeley scored shortly after on a wild pitch, giving Lasell a 9-8 lead. A double from Kirk sent Alyssa Bland and Fortin home. 

At the top of the fifth Shyanne Raccio singled through the right side, sending Sheeley and Katie Hopkins in. A sacrafice bunt and single for the Blazers sent home what would end up being their final runs of the game. 

Kirck reached first on an error by the pitcher, advancing to second on the play, while Bland scored. Brianna Gendreau singled, sending Kirck home. Another single, this time from Emily Rondeau would send Gendreau in. A grand slam in the top of the sixth from Raccio would be the Lasers final runs of the game. 

Raccio takes home the win, collecting 8 strikeouts on the day. 

Game 2 

The first five innings of the game went scoreless on both sides of the field. Lasell opened things up in the top of the sixth with a two run homer from Hopkins. 

The top of the seventh started with a homerun from Kirck, giving Lasell a 3-0 lead. Two more singles would end the game with a 6-0 Lasers win. 

Abigail Fortin pitched all seven for the Lasers, collecting seven strikeouts. 

 

Up Next: Lasell will head to Salem State tomorrow afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader.
