SB: Five Lasers Named to All Academic Team

Newton, MA - The College Sports Communicators announced their 2022-2023 Academic All-District teams this week, and the Lasell University Softball team had five members honored.

The 2022-23 Academic All-District® Baseball and Softball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes baseball and softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Nominees must maintain a 3.5 GPA and participate in at least 50% of their team's games.

The five Lasers honored were Emily Mestas, Brianna Gendreau, Katie Hopkins, Mackenzie Still, and Eryn Sheeley.

Mestas, a sophomore from Highland, CA hit .317 on the season with 33 hits. She had 15 RBI and stole nine bases without being caught.

Gendreau, a graduate student from Warren, RI had a historic season, setting a new school record with 69 hits, to the tune of a .418 batting average. She also broke the school record for hits in a career with 172. She was named to the GNAC All-Conference Second team.

Hopkins, a junior from Garden City Park, NY was second on the team with 57 hits and a .410 average. she had 32 RBI. During the season she eclipsed the 100 career hits milestone.

Still, a sophomore from Middleboro, MA was fourth on the team with 41 hits, and had 26 RBI.

Sheeley, a junior from North Haven, CT continued a historic career, shattering the previous record for strikeouts in a season with 191. She also broke the career record with 361. She went 15-8 in the circle while pitching 145.1 innings. She was also fourth on the team with 21 RBI. She was named to the GNAC All-Conference Second team.
