New Haven, CT - For the second straight day, the Lasell Lasers Softball team split their GNAC doubleheader as they fell in game one to the Albertus Magnus Falcons by a score of 6-1 before coming back and winning game two 6-5. The Lasers are now 22-10 on the season and 6-2 in conference play. The Falcons are now 17-15 and 9-3

Game One

The Falcons would build their lead up by scoring runs in the second, third, and fourth innings, leading 5-0. After Ally Kirck led off the sixth with a triple, the Lasers got their lone run of the game on a Katie Hopkins ground out. The Falcons would respond in the bottom half of the inning with a run of their own, and eventually take game one by a score of 6-1.

On the mound Lasell ace Eryn Sheeley was not her usual self, as she struggled with control, walking six batters compared to just one strikeout. She pitched 3.1 innings, allowing six hits and five runs, three of which were earned. She was relieved by Meghan Theall, who made her fifth pitching appearance of the week. She went 2.2 innings, allowing two hits and a lone earned run. She also struck out one batter. The Lasers had five hits in the game, with only Emily Mestas recording multiple hits. Katie Hopkins had the lone Lasell RBI.

Game Two

Whereas the Lasers struggled to get their offense going in game one, they wasted no time in game two. After singles from Ally Kirck and Brianna Gendreau, Mackenzie Still singled up the middle to knock in a run. Another RBI single happened off the bat of Grace Stephenson, giving the Lasers a 2-0 lead. But the Falcons responded immediately, and scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning. They would add another run in the third to make it 4-2. The Lasers finally put together one of their patented big innings in the fourth when they scored four runs. Grace Stephenson and Abigail Fortin led off the inning with a single and a double respectively. The first run then scored on an error. The Lasers then took the lead with an Ally Kirck two RBI triple to center field. She then scored on a fielder's choice to put the Lasers up 6-4. The Falcons would score a run in the seventh, and put the tying run on base, but the Lasers were able to work out of it and secure the 6-5 victory.

The Lasers had eight hits, with Ally Kirck, Brianna Gendreau, and Grace Stephenson each recording two hits. Abigail Fortin picked up her eighth win of the season, pitching all seven innings while allowing seven hits and five runs, with four of them being earned. She struck out three.

Up Next - The Lasers have no midweek games this week, as their next game will take place on Saturday April 22nd when they go on the road to face JWU.
