SB: Lasers Keep Winning, Sweep Fitchburg

Newton, MA - The Lasell Lasers Softball team extended their winning streak to eight on Wednesday, defeating Fitchburg State 4-3 and 11-0. The Lasers are now 20-8 on the season, while the Falcons are now 7-16.

Game One

Neither team recorded a hit over the first three and a half innings, with Ally Kirck having the first hit of the game with a double in the fourth. She later scored on a Mackenzie Still double. The Lasers went up 2-0 in the fourth after scoring another run on a ground out. Fitchburg scored a run in each of the next three innings, giving them a 3-2 lead as the Lasers came up to bat in the seventh. Singles by Emily Stilwell and Brianna Gendreau set the stage for Ally Kirck, as she singled to center field to drive home both of the runners, giving the Lasers the 4-3 walk off win.

The Lasers had seven hits, with Brianna Gendreau, Mackenzie Still, and Ally Kirck each recording two. Emily Stilwell had the other hit. Eryn Sheeley started in the circle for the Lasers, going six innings while allowing three hits and two runs, only one of which was earned. She struck out nine and walked seven. Meghan Theall pitched the seventh, picking up the win while allowing one hit and an unearned run.

Game Two

The Lasers struck early in the first inning, and kept scoring. They scored seven runs in the first. The first came on an error, while Katie Hopkins doubled to right field to drive in two more. Hopkins would later steal home as part of a double steal to make it 4-0. Alyssa Bland and Abigail Fortin RBI singles sandwiched a run scored on a wild pitch, as the Lasers held a commanding 7-0 lead after one inning. The Lasers would add four more runs in the fourth on two-RBI singles by both Grace Stephenson and Abigail Fortin.

The Lasers had 13 hits in the game, with eight of their starters recording at least one. Both Abigail Fortin and Katie Hopkins had three. Hopkins recorded her 100th career hit in the second with a single. Fortin led the team with three RBI, while Hopkins and Stephenson each had two. Meghan Theall picked up her second win of the day, going all five innings, allowing just two hits and no runs. She struck out one.
