SB: Lasers Run Winning Streak to Six

Newton, MA - The Lasell Lasers ran their winning streak to six, as they defeated the Salem State Vikings in both games of their doubleheader by scores of 8-2 and 9-2. The Lasers are now 18-8 on the season while the Vikings are 7-15.

Game One

Salem State got out to a quick lead, scoring twice in the first. But those proved to be their only runs of the game. Alyssa Bland cut the lead in half in the second with an RBI single, and Ally Kirck then tied things up with a HR in the third. Lasell then grabbed control in the fourth. They scored on a pair of RBI singles by Meghan Theall and Emily Mestas, as well as on an Emily Stilwell ground out. The big hit of the innings was an RBI triple from Kirck that made it 6-2. The Lasers extended their lead even further in the sixth on an Eryn Sheeley two RBI double.

The Lasers collected 14 hits in this one, with every starter recording at least one hit. Ally Kirck led the way with three, and was a double short of the cycle. Brianna Gendreau, Katie Hopkins, and Alyssa Bland each had two hits. Meghan Theall picked up her first win of the season, pitching all seven innings. She allowed five hits and two earned runs while striking out five.

Game Two

Just like in the first game, the Vikings got out to a 2-0 lead, scoring once in the first and the third. Lasell tied it up in the third on an Abigail Fortin two RBI single. The Lasers blew things open in the fifth when they scored seven runs. The Lasers were helped by four Viking errors in the inning, but Brianna Gendreau and Fortin each had two-RBI singles to help the Lasers.

The Lasers had nine hits in game two, with three coming off the bat of Abigail Fortin. Fortin also pitched a complete game, allowing just five hits and two earned runs while striking out nine. Emily Mestas and Brianna Gendreau each had two hits as well.

Up Next - The Lasers are right back at it on Wednesday, as they host Fitchburg State for a doubleheader at 3pm.
