SB: Lasers falling in non-conference bout with Simmons

Brighton, Mass. – The Lasell University Lasers softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader against the Simmons University Sharks, 10-0 and 11-2, Saturday at Daly Field.

The losses move Lasell to 8-8 overall while the wins improve Simmons to 4-4 on the year.

The Lasers will be back in action on Tuesday, April 27 when they take on St. Josephs of Connecticut in a conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 P.M. and game two slated to start at 5:00 P.M.

Game 1- Lasell 0 Simmons 10 (5 Innings)

Simmons got the scoring started in the first inning when senior Danielle Carson (Ashland, Mass.) scored on an error. Two more runs came across for Simmons following a single by senior Marissa Santoro (Franklin, Mass.) and both runners came around to score on an error.

The Sharks kept scoring in the second first on an RBI single off the bat of senior Ivy Vann (Bend, OR.). Sophomore Adlyn Hernandez (Miami, Fla.) singled home the second run of the inning for Simmons. The Sharks blew the inning open on an RBI double by Santoro.

The third inning saw the Sharks score once again when Vann singled home a run to open up a nine-run cushion.

The Sharks ended the scoring in the fourth inning on an RBI single by junior Alex Morang (Windham, Maine).

Junior Maddie Castigliego (Bristol, R.I) got the win throwing a no-hitter with five strikeouts. Santoro went two for three with three RBIs and Vann went two for three with two RBIs. Morang also added two hits and one RBI.

Game 2 – Lasell 2 Simmons 11 (5 innings)

Lasell got the scoring started in game two following a two RBI triple by freshman Katie Hopkins (New Hyde Park, N.Y.).

Simmons had the answer in the bottom half of the inning, first scoring on an RBI single by senior Christie Bott (Seaford, N.Y.). Simmons tied the game up following an RBI double by junior Shannon McMahon (El Cajon, Calif.) McMahon gave the Sharks the lead when she scored on a passed ball. Morang kept the scoring going for the Sharks when she singled home a run. The first inning was capped off by junior Allie Mulhern (Westford, Mass.) who double home two runs giving Simmons a 6-2 lead.

The Sharks added three more in the second inning first coming off an RBI single by Santoro and was followed up by a two-run homerun by McMahon.

McMahon got Simmons on the board again in the third inning when she doubled home a pair giving the Sharks an 11-2 lead which held the rest of the game.

Senior Hailey Yabroudy (Amherst, N.H.) got the win for the Sharks throwing all five while allowing two runs on three hits and striking out four. McMahon went three for three with a game leading five RBIs. Santoro and Vann both added two hits apiece while Mulhern added two RBIs. For Lasell Hopkins led the Lasers going two for two at the plate with two RBIs
