SB: Lasell drops two to Albertus Magnus on Senior Day

NEWTON, Mass. – The Lasell University softball team dropped a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) games to Albertus Magnus College Friday afternoon, falling by scores of 8-0 and 5-1 on Senior Day at Taylor Field.

The Lasers drop to 8-6 overall and 2-6 in the GNAC, while Albertus improves to 6-4 overall and 6-2 in conference play.

The Lasers managed just nine hits in the doubleheader, including two each from junior Brianna Gendreau (Warren, R.I.) and sophomore Matara Tamzarian (Manchester, N.H.).

Prior to the games, Lasell recognized its three seniors -- Nicolette Genkos (Worcester, Mass.), Bethany Hector (Jaffrey, N.H.) and Alexis Truesdale (Wakefield, Mass.).

Lasell will look to break its skid on Saturday, April 23, with a non-conference doubleheader at Simmons University, beginning at noon.

Game 1 – Albertus Magnus 8, Lasell 0 (6 innings)

Sophomore Bernadette Kingsbury (Trumbull, Conn.) was outstanding in the circle for the visitors, limiting the Lasers to just four singles in six innings, striking out five for her first career victory and first career shutout.

The visitors took control early with five runs in the top of the first inning, and put the game out of reach with one in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth. The Falcon offense was powered by senior Laura Anderson (East Haven, Conn.), who went 4-for-4 with three doubles and three RBI. Junior Ivy Geloso (Beacons Falls, Conn.) and sophomore Fatima Rosales (East Elmhurst, N.Y.) added two hits apiece, and junior Madison LaBossiere (Griswold, Conn.) cracked a triple and drove in two.

Gendreau and freshman Katie Hopkins (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) had first-inning singles for Lasell but the Lasers could not push a run across. Freshman Eryn Sheeley (North Haven, Conn.) was stranded after a fourth-inning single, and Tamzarian was left at first after a fifth-inning pinch-hit single.

Genkos went the distance in the circle for the Lasers and suffered the loss, dropping her record to 3-3.

Game 2 – Albertus Magnus 5, Lasell 1

The nightcap was a pitcher's duel between AMC's Anderson and Lasell's Sheeley. Anderson prevailed, allowing just one run on five hits in the complete-game effort, striking out five. Sheeley gave up just two earned runs on six hits in seven innings, fanning six.

Albertus struck first in the third inning, loading the bases with one out on a Lasell error, a single by Geloso and a walk by sophomore Ava Gladwin (Guilford, Conn.) Sheeley struck out the next batter but sophomore Janelle Franklin (Middletown, Conn.) scored on a wild pitch. The visitors extended their lead with two runs in the fifth inning, thanks to two Lasell errors and a sacrifice fly by junior Jess Stettinger (East Haven, Conn.).

Lasell got on the board in the bottom of the fifth after loading the bases on singles by Genkos and Tamzarian and a fielder's choice by junior Kelsey Scannevin (Harpswell, Maine). Freshman Ally Kirck (Hamden, Conn.) brought home the lone Laser run with an RBI single to center.

Albertus tacked on insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings on an RBI double by Geloso and a Lasell infield error.
