SB: Gendreau leads Lasers on record-setting day

Newton, Mass. – The Lasell University Lasers softball team had a record-setting day against the Fisher College Falcons, 26-0 and 16-0, on the diamond of Taylor Field.

Junior Brianna Gendreau (Warren, R.I.) broke the single game record for runs scored with five in game one. The record was held by a host of individuals going back to the 2007 season. The Lasers also broke the single game run record in the 26-0 victory breaking a record held by the 2007 team.

The Lasers move to 8-0 on season continuing the best start in program history. Lasell will be back on the diamond Saturday April 10 in a conference doubleheader against Johnson & Wales. First pitch will be at 12:00 P.M. and the second game is scheduled to begin at 2:00.

Game 1 – Lasell 26 Fisher 0 (5 innings)

Freshman Eryn Sheeley (North Haven, Conn.) and freshman Grace Couto (Assonet, Mass.) combined to throw a no-hitter.

Lasell started out hot with Gendreau collecting two RBIs on a single. She would be followed up by Sheeley, senior Bethany Hector (Jaffrey, N.H.), senior Nicolette Genkos (Worcester, Mass.) and junior Kelsey Scannevin (Harpswell, Maine) who all had RBI singles in the first inning.

The second inning was another hot one for the Lasers starting off with a Hector RBI double. Freshman Katie Hopkins (New Hyde Park, N.Y.)  had both an RBI double and single in the inning. Genkos tripled in a run and Gendreau tripled home three runs. Sheeley and Scannevin also had RBIs in the inning.

Lasers added three more in the third inning on RBI walks by Hector, Hopkins and sophomore Bella Richard (Burlington, Mass.).

Scannevin came home to start the scoring in the fourth inning that was followed up an RBI single by Couto. The individual record and team tying record run was scored by Gendreau on a wild pitch. Couto scored the team record run on a wild pitch as well to clinch the game for Lasell.

Game 2 – Lasell 16 Fisher 0 (5 innings)

The Lasers jumped out to the lead again in the first inning when Gendreau scored on a wild pitch.

Freshman Lexie Brunet (Dayville, Conn.) had an RBI single and two RBI double in the second inning. Hopkins followed up with an RBI single and sophomore Matara Tamzarian (Manchester, N.H.) had a two RBI single. Scannevin singled home a run and Gendreau closed out the inning with a two RBI single to right field.

Tamzarian scored on an error and then sophomore Angelena Piers (Bridgewater, Mass.) singled to center field to bring home Scannevin in the third.

Lasell capped off the fourth inning and their final at bat by scoring on a passed ball and on an RBI ground out by Tamzarian to win game two.
