NEWTON, Mass. – Lasell College swept a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) softball doubleheader from Regis College Sunday afternoon at Taylor Field, winning both games in their final at bat, 6-4 and 2-1.

The Lasers scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning in the opener, breaking a 4-4 deadlock and held off the Pride in the top of the seventh. Then the Lasers rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning of the nightcap to complete the sweep.

Lasell snapped a 12-game losing streak and improved to 5-21 overall and 2-6 in the GNAC, while Regis falls to 4-20 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

Lasell is home again on Thursday, April 18, hosting Norwich University in a GNAC twinbill at Taylor Field, beginning at 3 p.m. Regis will play a home doubleheader against Gordon on Tuesday, Apr. 16, beginning at 3 p.m.

Game 1 – Lasell 6, Regis 4

The Pride came out swinging and put two runs on the board in the first inning. Junior Ellery Rasmussen (Kingston, N.H.) had an RBI double down the left field line, and freshman Sarah Fawcett (Londonderry, N.H.) followed with a run-scoring single to center.

Lasell came back to take a 3-2 lead with one run in the second inning and two in the third. Freshman Lisa Pare (Ellington, Conn.) singled home a run in the second, and junior Arianna Genovese (Rocky Hill, Conn.) did the same in the third. Sophomore Hannah Doherty (Hampton, N.H.) also brought home a run with an infield grounder.

Each team plated a run in the fourth inning, and Regis scored on a Lasell error and the Lasers answered with an RBI single by freshman Brianna Gendreau (Warren, R.I.). Fawcett tied the score at 4-4 with an RBI double for Regis in the top of the fifth.

The Lasers scored the game-winning run in the sixth after sophomore Bethany Hector (Jaffrey, N.H.) singled and classmate Alexis Truesdale (Wakefield, Mass.) reached on a walk. Both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch, and Genovese delivered a two-run single down the left field line.

Doherty recorded the victory in the circle for Lasell with a complete-game effort, allowing just two earned runs on nine hits, striking out five.

Genovese and Gendreau both finished 2-for-4 with Genovese driving in three.

Game 2 – Lasell 2, Regis 1

Game two was a pitcher's duel between Lasell sophomore Hailey Haskins (Franklin, N.H.) and Regis freshman Alyssa Ward (Webster, Mass.). Regis scored the only run (unearned) of the first six innings on an RBI double by Rasmussen in the third inning.

After pitching two-hit shutout ball for six innings, Ward was touched for the game-winning runs in the bottom of the seventh. Junior Sarah Kline (Vernon, Conn.) led off with a double, and sophomore Sarah Walton (Poland, Maine) reached on an error on her sacrifice bunt, which scored Kline. Pinch runner Allie Borowsky (Dalton, Mass.) was sacrificed to second, went to third on a single by Pare, and scored the winning run on an infield grounder by Truesdale.

Rasmussen had three hits for Regis and Fawcett and freshman Erin Murphy (Bedford, N.H.) had two hits apiece. The Lasers managed just four hits off Ward, who struck out three.
