Lasell Softball drops final two on last day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Lasell College softball team dropped its final two games on the final day at the National Training Center in Florida, falling to North Park University, 4-0, and Franklin & Marshall College, 9-0.

Sophomore Arianna Genovese (Rocky Hill, Conn.) had two of Lasell's four hits in the first game against North Park, and sophomore Sarah Kline (Vernon, Conn.) and freshman Bethany Hector (Jaffrey, N.H.) had one hit apiece. Genovese and Hector both singled in the second inning but the Lasers could not push a run across. Genovese doubled to lead off the fourth inning and Kline singled and stole second, but North Park retired the next two batters to end the Laser threat.

Sophomore Nicole Arcese (Holliston, Mass.) allowed just two earned runs in six innings, striking out three, but was saddled with the loss.

Lasell's trip to Florida ended on a down note in the final game against Franklin & Marshall as senior Izzy Schaefer (Newtown Square, Pa.) tossed a five-inning no-hitter against the Lasers, walking two and striking out three.

Sophomore Victoria Spellman (Rocky Hill, Conn.) walked and stole second in the first inning but was erased on a line-drive double play. Freshman Allie Borowsky (Dalton, Mass.) walked to lead off the third inning but was caught stealing to end the inning.

The Lasers (1-9) return to New England for the remaining 30 games of the schedule. The home opener is slated for next Tuesday, March 20, in a doubleheader against Gordon College, but the games are in jeopardy due to snow on Taylor Field.
