Softball Falls to Emmanuel in GNAC DH

BOSTON, Mass. (4/15/17) – The Lasell College softball team dropped two Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contests to Emmanuel College on Saturday afternoon at Roberto Clemente Field.

Emmanuel senior pitcher Jill Kilcoyne (Worcester, Mass.) allowed no earned runs in eight innings of work in the pair the wins, as the Saints shutout Lasell 8-0 in Game 1 before posting a 10-2 win in Game 2.

GAME 1 – Emmanuel: 8 Lasell: 0 (5 inn.)

Kilcoyne was in control in the circle allowing no hits and three walks over five innings of work while striking out nine to improve to 6-4 on the year and 5-0 against GNAC opponents.

The Saints exploded for five runs in the first inning and never looked back en route to the Game 1 win.  Sophomore catcher Casey Sheehan (Medway, Mass.), sophomore designated player Ashley Skey (Brookline, N.H.), senior third baseman Kara Madden (Silver Spring, Md.) and sophomore outfielder Olivia Burgos (Newington, Conn.) all collected RBI's in the first

EC freshman second baseman Kerry Sendrick (Medway, Mass.) made it 6-0 with a leadoff homer in the second before an RBI double by Madden in the third bumped the lead to 7-0.

Lasell freshman pitcher Nicole Arcese (Holliston, Mass.) retired the side in the fourth holding the Saints scoreless for the first time all afternoon but EC ended the game in the fifth, scoring the final run of the game with the help of a Laser miscue.  Arcese took the loss and falls to 2-8 on the year.

GAME 2 – Emmanuel: 10 Lasell: 2 (5 inn.)

Skey got the party started in Game 2 with a two-run blast in the bottom of the first inning to deep centerfield to put EC ahead, 2-0. In the second, freshman shortstop Sydney Rogers (Southwick, Mass.) put together a good at bat with two outs and connected on a two-RBI single to bump the host's lead to 4-0.

The Lasers got on the board in the third with a pair of unearned runs to cut the lead in half at 4-2. Senior Erin Smith (Gorham, Maine) reached on an Emmanuel error that allowed sophomore Maggie King (Sandy Creek, N.Y.) to come around and score. Smith would come around to eventually score on an Emmanuel wild pitch to account for the 4-2 mark.

EC answered in the bottom of the frame plating three runs to take a five-run lead at 7-2. Sophomore Megan Kieselback (Wethersfield, Conn.) connected on a ground rule double to left-center to drive in Skey and make it 6-2 before Madden doubled to center driving in senior first baseman Susie Kieselback (Wethersfield, Conn.) for Emmanuel's seventh run.

Skey launched her second homer of the day in the fourth, a two-run moonshot to left to give the Saints a 9-2 advantage.

The Saints walked off with the win in the fifth similar to game one, taking advantage of a Lasell miscue to push across the 10th run.

Kilcoyne earned the win again working the first three innings striking out four before M. Kieselback finished the action throwing two scoreless frames. Senior Krystel Enko (Haydenville, Mass.) suffered the loss allowing six runs over two innings.

The Lasers are back in action on Wednesday, April 19, travelling to Nashua, N.H. for a GNAC doubleheader vs. Rivier at 6:00 and 8:00 PM. The Saints return to action the same day, April 19 when they hit to road for a GNAC twinbill at Anna Maria College scheduled for 2:00 and 4:00 PM.
