Albertus Takes Two from Softball
NEWTON, Mass. (4/9/2017)--- The Lasell College softball team dropped two Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contests to Albertus Magnus on Saturday afternoon at Taylor Field. The Lasers fall to 3-13 overall and remain winless in conference play at 0-6, while Albertus improves to 14-6 overall, 5-1 in the conference.

Game One Albertus 16 Lasell 1

Senior Erin Smith (Gorham, Maine) started off the third inning with a left field single, and led Lasell with one knock and a run in the effort. An RBI single from sophomore Maggie King (Sandy Creek, N.Y.) plated Smith for the home team's lone run of the game.

Juniors Gillian Fortier (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Melissa Castillo (Taftville, Conn.) each respectively went 3-4, as both upperclassmen had two homeruns on the day with Fortier's happening in grand slam fashion.

Junior Lydia Lewis-Hicks (Seekonk,Mass.) started in the circle for the Lasers allowing 10 hits in three innings pitched. Senior Krystel Enko (Haydenville, Mass.) finished game one off for the Lasers, allowing five hits in two innings pitched.  Megan Ferraro (Branford, Conn.) tossed all five innings for the Falcons allowing only four hits.

Game Two Albertus 7 Lasell 0

Smith led the Lasers on the bases in the nightcap, stealing twice, and tallied two singles adding to the Lasers' four hits on the day.

The Falcons found the gaps in the second inning, scoring six runs off seven dingers. Junior catcher Daysia Wehder (Queens, N.Y.) started Albertus off with a double to right field, before Wehder tallied an RBI single to give the visitors an early 6-0 advantage.

Freshman Nichole Arcese (Holliston, Mass.) pitched all seven innings for the Lasers allowing ten hits off 33 at bats. Falcons' rookie Laura Anderson (East Haven, Conn.) remained in the circle for all seven innings of play allowing four hits and tallied four strikeouts on the day.

The Lasers will welcome New England College on Monday April 10 for a non-conference double header beginning at 3:00 p.m. Albertus Magnus will host University of Saint Joseph on Wednesday April 12 at 3:00 p.m.
