Game One: St. Joe's: 5 Lasell: 2
The first inning was quiet for both teams until a deep single by McKenna Driscoll (Bristol, Conn.) sparked the Blue Jays' offense. Three USJ hitters then reached base before an RBI double from freshman Brianna Barfield (North Andover, Mass.) brought them home to put two runs on the board.
The Blue Jays continued to have strong at bats in the third, and added three more runs to build a 5-0 lead. The Lasers bounced back with a pair of singles from freshman Arianna Genovese (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and junior Laura MacLeod (Stony Brook, Conn), before Ashley Gatchell (Franklin, Mass.) singled to center field bringing in another run for the Lasers and cut the deficit to three.
A pitchers battle sealed the win for the visiting Blue Jays, as freshman Amaria Sharon (Tolland, Conn.) earned the win and finished the game allowing eight hits in seven innings pitched. Freshman Leah Shaw (Charlestown, N.H.) collected her first collegiate start today for the Lasers, falling short in 2.1 innings tossed.
Game Two: St. Joe's: 15 Lasell: 5
The Lasers rallied with two outs in the first, scoring three of their five runs early on for an opening 3-0 advantage. A single by freshman Victoria Spellman (Rocky Hill, Conn.) began the Lasell offense before classmate Nicole Arcese (Holliston, Mass.) tallied a single of her own to move two baserunners in scoring position. A right field single from rookie Esther Plouffe (No. Scituate, R.I.) brought in two of the three Lasell runs in the opening side.
The Blue Jays bounced back and scored four of their own runs off of five knocks. An RBI triple from Spellman tied the game for the Lasers in the second, giving Lasell another lead after scoring on a passed ball, but Saint Joseph's tied the game with a hit from sophomore Morgan Skoly (Vernon, Conn.) that ultimately got her around the bases.
An explosive 10-run inning from the Blue Jays sealed the conference sweep for the visitors, as they finished off the second contest with 16 hits, and took the win in six innings.
The Lasers are back in action tomorrow as they welcome the Falcons of Albertus Magnus for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. The Blue Jays host Mount Ida for a twinball GNAC matchup beginning at noon tomorrow as well.
