NEWTON, Mass. (3/20/17) -- Senior infielder Erin Smith (Gorham, Maine) of the Lasell College softball team was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week, as announced Monday by the conference office.
Smith hit 17-for-32 for a .531 average last week as the Lasers opened their season with 10 games in Leesburg, Fla., winning three. The team's primary leadoff hitter, Smith scored ten runs and drove in two more, was not caught stealing in 11 attempts, and struck out just once while playing in all but one game.
Five of Smith's nine appearances resulted in multiple-hit games, including a 4-for-5 effort with a double, two runs scored, an RBI and four stolen bases in the Lasers' second win of the season over Gallaudet. She also posted three-hit games against Becker and Minnesota-Morris.
Smith and the Lasers are next scheduled to play a doubleheader against New England College on Saturday, March 25 at 12:00 p.m.
