NEWTON, Mass. (4/19/14) – The Lasell College softball team closed out their 2014 season with a split against Mount Ida College, losing game one 6-2 before winning the second game 4-2. The Lasers finished the season with a 14-22 record and a 7-15 mark in GNAC play.

Game One – Mount Ida 6 – Lasell 2

Santina Antoshak had a pair of singles, Courtney Moen singled and scored a run, and Emily DeAngelis doubled for the Lasers. Eileen Bergin took the loss, allowing six runs, four earned on nine hits in four innings of work before giving way to senior Samantha Whynot who allowed two hits in two scoreless innings of relief.

Mount Ida jumped out to an early lead, using a four-run first inning, courtesy of a three-run home run by Kristen Guerrero to tale a 4-0 lead. The Mustangs added a run in the third and another in the fourth to push their lead to 6-0. Lasell put a pair of runs on the board in the top of the sixth inning as Moen and Bergin both scored. DeAngelis led off with a double in the top of the seventh, but the Lasers were unable to sustain the rally, falling 6-2.

Game Two – Lasell 4 – Mount Ida 2

 Senior Santina Antoshak recorded a pair of singles, two stolen bases and scored twice and classmate Courtney Moen doubled, stole a base and scored twice as the duo played their final college softball game for Lasell. Nicole LeBlanc and Denise Archetto each singled and drove in a run for the Lasers. Kystal Enko went the distance in the circle for Lasell, allowing two runs, one earned while scattering seven hits to earn the victory.

Lasell jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Antoshak singled and stole second to lead-off the game and Moen walked to give Lasell runners on first and second. After a pair of Lasers were retired Denise Archetto singled to drive in Antoshak, and Moen scored when Emily Noll singled to give Lasell their first lead of the day. Mount Ida tied the game in the home half of the second inning and the two teams didn't allow another run until the fifth inning.

Antoshak got things going for Lasell in the fifth, reaching on a hit by pitch to lead-off. Moen singled and a one-out single by Nicole LeBlanc scored Antoshak to put Lasell in front 3-2. Moen stole third before coming in to score on a wild pitch, making it a 4-2 lead. After a 1-2-3 bottom of the fifth inning, Enko had to work out of trouble in the sixth and seventh as Mount Ida put two runners on in each inning but managed to preserve the lead and help Lasell take home the victory.
