USJ Sweeps Lasell in GNAC Softball Action

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Danielle Circosta (Feeding Hills, Mass.) pitched a five-inning two hitter in the opener as the University of Saint Joseph softball team swept a doubleheader from Lasell 12-0 and 6-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at USJ. St. Joseph improved to 17-9 overall and 13-3 in the GNAC. Lasell dropped to 13-19 overall and 6-12 in the GNAC.

Game One – USJ 12 – Lasell 0

Emily Noll recorded the Lasers lone hits in game one, singling twice in a pair of at-bats. Eileen Bergin took the loss, allowing 11 runs, five earned on 10 hits and five walks in two and two-third innings of work befor giving way to Samantha Whynot. Whynot gave up one run on one hits in an inning and a third of relief.

The University of St. Joseph's scored a run in the first and another in the second inning, before blowing the game open with a nine-run third inning to seal the result on their way to a 12-0 victory.

Game Two – USJ 6 – Lasell 2

Michaelea Grady singled and doubled and drove in a run, Nicole LeBlanc added an RBI single and Emily Noll and Emily DeAngelis each singled twice on the 6-2 loss for Lasell. Eileen Bergin went six innings, allowing 11 hits and six runs while taking the loss in the circle for Lasell.

Lasell took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Santina Antoshak singled, stole second and scored on a single by LeBlanc, putting Lasell in front 1-0. A two-run double by Cassandra Vigue in the bottom of the second put USJ back on top, 2-1, and the hosts added three more in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 5-1 lead. An RBI single in the bottom of the sixth by Vigue scored another run for the Blue Jays, and although Lasell plated one in the top of the seventh on a double by Grady, USJ captured the 6-2 victory.
