Lasell Drops Finale of Spring Trip against Frostburg State

Myrtle Beach, S.C. (3/22/13) – The Lasell College softball team suffered a 6-3 defeat at the hands of Frostburg State University in the final game of their southern trip. Lasell finished the trip at 3-7, the most games they have won during their spring trip in the last three seasons, while Frostburg pushed their record to 12-3 on the season.

Nicole LeBlanc (Easton, Mass.) went two for three on the day with a single and a three-run home run, and Denise Archetto (Cranston, R.I.) had a double and a run scored. Alison Saluti (Braintree, Mass.) took the loss, yielding four runs on nine hits through four innings, and Samantha Whynot (Randolph, Mass.)  relieved her and allowed two runs, both unearned in three innings of work.

Lauren Capece led the attack for the Bobcats, finishing the day with a pair of hits including a home run, while scoring twice and driving in a pair. Mary Ann Moore went the distance for Frostburg State, fanning 13 while giving up three runs on three hits to earn the victory.

After a pair of scoreless innings to open the game, Frostburg State plated a pair of runs to take a 2-0 lead, and then added two more to go on top 4-0 through the first four innings. The Bobcats took advantage of a pair of Lasell errors to add two more runs in the top of the sixth inning taking a 6-0 lead.

Lasell got on the board in the bottom half of the sixth inning when Courtney Moen (Brookfield, Mass.) worked a two-out walk, Archetto roped a double to left field, and Nicole LeBlanc deposited a pitch from Mary Ann Moore beyond the outfield fence for a three-run home run.

Lasell threatened in the bottom of the seventh, but stranded a pair of runners without scoring the game's tying runs, falling 6-3.
