Frostburg State Stings Lasell in Softball Action

Myrtle Beach, S.C. (3/19/13) – The Lasell College softball team dropped the fourth game in their foray south for the beginning of their season when they lost 10-4 to Frostburg State University. The result dropped the Lasers to 0-4 on the season, while the Bobcats improved to 7-3 on the year.

Nicole LeBlanc (Easton, Mass.) rapped out four hits on the afternoon including a double and a homerun while driving in two runs and scoring twice for Lasell. Courtney Moen (Brookfield, Mass.) was two for four with a pair of singles and a run scored, and Michaela Grady Worcester, Mass.) added a solo home run for the Lasers. Eileen Bergin (Arlington, Mass.) went the distance on the hill, yielding ten runs, nine earned while taking the loss.

Five different Bobcats finished with a two hits each, led by Reny Aubel who was 2 for 3 at the plate, with a single and a home run, scoring once and driving in a trio of runs. Shari Beavers also homered and doubled for Frostburg State with a run scored and two batted in and Bailey Ellsworth singled twice, scored twice and drove in a pair. Beavers also earned the victory for the Bobcats, throwing all seven innings, and scattering 10 hits while holding Lasell o four runs and striking out seven.

Frostburg State opened the game with a pair of runs in the top of the first, using and RBI single from Aubel and a run scoring double by Beavers.

Courtney Moen singled in the bottom of the first for Lasell, coming around to score on a double by LeBlanc helping Lasell close the gap to 2-1.

Both teams failed to create any scoring chances through the second and third innings, and Lasell again kept Frostburg off the board in the Bobcats half of the fourth inning.

LeBlanc and Grady both homered in the Lasers half of the fourth, helping them to a 3-2 lead.

Both teams went scoreless in the fifth inning, and Bergin set the visitors down in order on three straight groundouts in their half of the sixth.

LeBlanc and DeAngelis opened the bottom of the sixth with consecutive singles for Lasell, and Erin Larghi (Wakefield, R.I.) added a one-out single to load the bases. Ashley Pearson (Lincoln, R.I.) was retired on strikes, but Santina Antoshak (Closter, N.J.) was hit by a pitch forcing in the Lasers fourth run of the game and sending them into the final inning holding a 4-2 lead.

In the top of the seventh the Bobcats opened with a walk and a double to place runners on the second and third, and then tied the game when they scored a pair of runs on an Ellsworth single. Aubel then put the Frostburg up by two when she followed with a two-run home run, and when Beavers knocked one over the wall, the Bobcats led 7-4. Frostburg added three more runs before the dust settled on their rally, and they were on top 10-4 heading to the Lasell half of the seventh.

The Lasers mustered a two-out single by LeBlanc, but were unable to respond and took the loss.
