RIo Grande Stymies Lasell in Women's Softball

Myrtle Beach, S.C. (3/18/13) - The Lasell College women's softball lost their third game on the opening day of their southern trip, falling to Rio Grande 14-1 in five innings. The loss dropped Lasell to 0-3 on their season-opening southern swing, while Rio Grande inproved to 4-6 on the year with the win.

Lasell was limited to one run on four hits in the loss, with Ashley Pearson (Lincoln, R.I.) driving in a run with a single, and Amanda Szidat (Westford, Mass.) adding a double to the Lasers offensive attack. Samanth Whynot (Randolph, Mass.) took the loss, allowing 14 runs in five innings while striking out four. 

Haley Gwin was the offensive star of the game for the Redstorm, hitting three homeruns and driving in seven runs in the victory. Kaitie Stewart earned the win on the mound, giving up one run on four hits and striking out six on the day.
