STANDISH, ME- St. Joseph's College of Maine shut down the Lasell College softball team's offense in a back-to-back games at Richard W. Bailey Field on Friday afternoon.  The Monks won outright in six innings, 8-0, with Maddie Kluna (Standish, ME) pitching a perfect game, and then picked up a 5-0 win in regulation innings in the nightcap.  

 

Kluna's perfect game was completed in just 49 pitches as she sat down all 18 batters she faced in the shortened contest, including four strikeouts.  

 

St. Joseph's batters put up two runs in the first inning to take a hold of the game from the beginning. Danyelle Shufelt went 4-for-4 at the plate with one run and one RBI to lead the attack for the Monks who stand at 27-7 overall and 17-3 in league action. 

 

Lasell freshman pitcher Alyson Bermudez (Londonderry, NH) slips to 1-3 on the season after five and a third innings of work. 

 

Rae-Marie Copan (Newton, MA) allowed three hits and no walks while fanning three batters in game two to earn the win as the starting pitcher for the Monks.  The hosts pull ahead 2-0 in the first inning again this game, at which point Lasell held off further damage for four complete innings before the Monks added three runs in the bottom of the sixth. 

 

The Lasers struggles at the plate were finally ceased by Kirsten Mammola (North Reading, MA) in the fourth inning when she doubled to center field with two outs.  Ashley Laramie (Lynn, MA) bunted to reach base in the fifth inning and Santina Antoshak (Closter, NJ) added a base hit in the sixth inning for Lasell, but all three Laser runners were all left on base. 

 

Laser starting pitcher Alison Saluti (Braintree, MA) retired six Monk batters on strikes in six innings on the pitch.  Saluti falls to 4-7 this season after yielding five runs on 11 hits. 

 

Lasell (9-27, 9-13 GNAC) looks to halt a four game skid on Tuesday, April 26th at 3:00 p.m. in their final regular season doubleheader against rivals Mount Ida College.  The pair of contests will also mark Senior Day for Laramie, Mammola, Kelly Silvia (Oak Bluffs, MA), Kerrie Starkey (Keene, NH), and Michelle Torres (Waltham, MA).
