Softball Goes 1-1 at Emmanuel

BOSTON, MA- Sophomore pitcher Alison Saluti (Braintree, MA) picked up her second win of the season on Sunday afternoon in a 10-6 victory over Emmanuel College.  The Saints then responded with a win in game two, 2-0.

 

Saluti struck out three Saints en route to the Lasers' 6th conference victory, while allowing just four earned runs.

 

Lasell went ahead 5-0 in the second inning on three hits and one error.  Michelle Torres (Waltham, MA) scored, unearned, on a miscue by the Saints' second baseman and Marissa McHugh (Plymouth, MA) followed, for a 2-0 lead, on a Kelly Silvia (Oak Bluffs, MA) RBI single. Silvia scored on a passed ball and a two-RBI single by Candace Hankard (Wakefield, MA) rounded out the scoring in the period, bringing Talia DeChiara (Kingston, MA) and Rachelle Haas (Middletown, MA) around the bags.

 

After six runs by the Saints between the 4th and 5th innings, Lasell doubled their runs scored in the seventh inning.  DeChiara tripled and scored to start the inning off followed by a Hankard and a Kirsten Mammola (North Reading, MA) base hit each.  Both runners scored on a Torres double and then Torres came home on a Saint error. The final run of the day was scored by McHugh on an RBI single by Kerrie Starkey (Keene, NH).

 

Mammola and Hankard both finished the day 3-for-4 at the plate and Torres went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. The Lasers knocked a total of 12 hits as a team in the contest.

 

The second matchup stayed without a score through the fifth inning when Emmanuel put up two runs, only one of which was earned, on two hits and an error.  Throughout the game, the Saints totaled just three hits and just one walk. 

 

The Lasers finished game two with four total hits which were recorded by Starkey, McHugh, Hankard, and DeChiara.

 

Mammola was hit with the loss in six innings of pitching, sitting down one batter on strikes and yielding just one earned run on three hits and one walk.

 

Lasell (6-18, 6-4 GNAC)returns home on Monday, April 11th to play a doubleheader against St. Joseph College of Connecticut at 3:00 p.m.
