BOSTON, MA-  Suffolk University snuck by with a narrow 6-5 victory over Lasell College softball in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) season opener on Saturday before the Lasers regrouped to run off with a 10-6 win in game two.  Senior pitcher Kirsten Mammola (North Reading, MA) picked up the Lasers' first win of the season, tossing a complete game, giving up just three earned runs in the conference triumph. 

Getting under way in game one, the Rams burst out to score all six of their runs in the first three innings of play, with a pair of runs in each frame.  Lasell plated runners once in the first and again in the third and then closed in with three more runs in the fifth off of an Ashley Laramie (Lynn, MA) triple which scored two runners, and an error which sent Laramie home.  Scoring was complete at the conclusion of the half inning which left Lasell out of reach of their first victory. 

Candace Hankard (Wakefield, MA) had a day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two runns while Laramie and Mammola added two RBI each on one knock.  Kelly Silvia (Oak Bluffs, MA) went 3-for-4 and Talia DeChiara (Kingston, MA) added two hits and a run.  

Though only five runs were earned in the game, Alyson Bermudez (Londonderry, NH) was handed the loss on the mound.  The rookie pitcher struck out three and gave up five hits in three innings.

Samantha Whynot (Randolph, MA) put in three innings of relief work, striking out two Rams and allowing no runs. 

In game two, Suffolk took the lead, 1-0, after an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning.  Two hits translated into an additional run for the hosts in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Lasell rendered four runs, on three hits and three errors in the fifth to take the lead.

Four runs for the Rams in the sixth flipped the advantage again but Lasell's final answer came in the final inning with six runs on four hits and three errors. 

Silvia went 2-for-4 in game two with a double, three RBI, and one run scored while Laramie shot one home run which scored three, and added two runs of her own. Mammola added two hits and Torres and Doyle each produced two runs.  

Mammola had one strike out in the win over the Rams.
