Kirsten Mammola (North Reading, MA) went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while also picking up the win on the mound, 9-5, in game two of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) twin bill at Mount Ida College on Saturday. The Lasell College women’s softball team split the crucial GNAC doubleheader College dropping game one 11-3 on a rainy and raw game day.  The Mustangs improve to 16-17, 9-13 in league play while The Lasers inch closer to a playoff bid standing at 17-19, 13-9 in the GNAC.

It was a slew of Laser errors in the sixth inning of game one that put the eight-run rule into effect for the hosting Mustangs, leading to the 11-3 Mustang win.  Freshman pitcher Alison Saluti (Braintree, MA) was hit with the loss, working for five and a third innings and allowing five runs with four strikeouts.  Freshman Devan Meeker (Bantam, CT/Litchfield) was solid for the Mustangs on the mound putting in six innings of work giving up two earned runs on nine hits adding three strikeouts.  

Ashley Laramie (Lynn, MA), Kelly Silvia (Oaks Bluff, MA), and Jacqueline Saluti (Braintree, MA) generated much of the offense in game one, each producing two hits on three at times at the plate.  Lasell also got a hit each from Talia DeChiara (Kingston, MA), Mammola, and Tricia Culver (Northampton, MA).  Marissa McHugh (Plymouth, MA) and Culver recorded and RBI apiece and Laramie, Jacqueline Saluti and Kerry Starkey (Keene, NH) each came around the bases for a run.

Lasell jumped out to a quick start in game two, bringing in four runs on two hits and three Mustang errors in the first inning.  Lasell plated another three runs in the top of the fourth inning which solidified the victory. 

Mammola earned five K’s on the mound in seven innings, collecting her ninth season win.  The junior hurler surrendered eight hits and one earned run.   Meeker went the distance for the Mustangs yielding nine hits and six earned runs with four strikeouts and four walks in game two.

In addition to her time on the mound, Mammola led the Lasers offensively with three hits, one walk, two runs, and two RBI.  Silvia also executed well for the Lasers on offense, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, one walk, and two RBI.  Silvia started the scoring in the fourth inning with a lead-off home run to left field. 

Laramie and Kelly Barden (Quincy, MA) each knocked a hit and two RBI and Culver and DeChiara each supplied a hit and a run for the Lasers in the GNAC triumph.

Lasell has one final GNAC doubleheader, rescheduled for Monday, April 19th at Norwich University before the start of the conference post-season tournament. Games are scheduled to start at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.
