West Haven, CT- Freshman pitcher Alison Saluti (Braintree, MA) pitched a perfect game in an 11-0 shutout of Albertus Magnus on Sunday afternoon. Saluti retired all 15 Falcon batters, striking out six on the way to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory. Kirsten Mammola (North Reading, MA) closed a three-hitter in the second game, 12-0, to sweep the GNAC doubleheader.
The Falcons failed to reach base during game one, in the Lasers first perfect game in five years.
Kirsten Mammola (Reading, CT) went 3-for-3 at the plate, with two runs and one double. Jacqueline Saluti (Braintree, MA) had one hit, one run, and two RBI and Kelly Silvia (Oaks Bluff, MA) produced one knock, two runs, and six putouts as the Lasers catcher.
Lasell got on top in the first inning with Mammola’s double which transitioned into a run off a passed ball. The Lasers then added seven runs in the third frame when Kerrie Starkey (Keene, NH) and Silvia scored, unearned on errors, and Mammola, Ashley Laramie (Lynn, MA), Talia DeChiara (Kingston, MA), Jacqueline Saluti, and Kelly Barden (Quincy, MA) made it around the bags on earned runs.
Lasell added two insurance runs in the fourth on two hits and one error. Jacqueline Saluti scored her second run after an RBI-single.
Silvia capped the Lasers scoring in the fifth, taking advantage of a passed ball to reach home plate.
Barden, Haas, and DeChiara all went 3-for-4 in game two while combining for seven RBI. Barden launched two extra-base hits and picked up four RBI while Haas and DeChiara scored twice in the game. Haas also belted her third homerun, as the leadoff batter in the first inning.
Marissa McHugh (Plymouth, MA) and Laramie each went 2-for-3 scoring two runs, while Laramie added two RBI.
Mammola fanned five of the 18 batters faced, while allowing just three hits in the second shutout of the day.
Haas’ homer opened the game, giving Lasell a 1-0 edge in the first. Five additional runs were scored in the second on four hits and one error. McHugh scored once in the third and five additional runs were scored in the top of the fifth, producing the commanding 12-run advantage.
The Lasers will begin a three-day series of GNAC home games starting with a Johnson & Wales University doubleheader on Monday, April 12th at 3:00 p.m.
