Suffolk Sweeps Series from Lasell

Suffolk Sweeps Series from Lasell

Boston, MA- Suffolk University swept a two game series with the Lasers softball team on Wednesday afternoon, beating Lasell first 4-2 and then 9-1 in game two.  Both Lasell and Suffolk now stand at 13-5 in the GNAC.

The Lasers began the game getting on top in the first with a run by Rose who scored unearned on a Ram infield error.  Suffolk did not answer until the bottom of the fourth inning.  The Rams scored three runs to push ahead of the Lasers scoring the runs on four hits and one error.

The Rams added an additional run in the sixth inning when Marie Trainor picked up and RBI sac fly to left field.

Lasell's Talia DeChiaria (Kingston, Mass.) started the Lasers out in the right direction in the seventh singling to center field.  DeChiaria was knocked in by Kerrie Starkey (Keene, NH) who also sent a base hit through the middle. The Lasers left the tying runs on base as the inning ended.

Game two was a struggle for the Lasers as Suffolk managed 13 hits and scored in every inning.

Tiffany Perla (Westminster, Mass.) reached on an outfield error and scored unearned for the Lasers sole run during the first frame.

The Rams, however, went up 4-1 in the first and never looked back.

The Lasers had six hits, one each from Perla, Rose, DeChiaria, Kelly Barden (Quincy, Mass.), Michelle Torres (Waltham, Mass.), and Kelly Silvia (Oaks Bluff, Mass.) but the Lasers could not capitalize enough to come back from the gap.

Lasell has six regular season games left before the GNAC tournament begins on April 21st.  Lasell plays next on Friday, April 17th against Emerson College who stand first in the conference currently.  The Lasers and the Lions meet for game one at 3:00 p.m. on Taylor Field.
