Day 2 in Florida for Lasers

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Kirsten Mammola (North Reading, Mass.) recorded her first win of the season against SUNY Brockport 3-2 in eight innings for Lasell softball on Monday. Mammola pitched all eight, holding the Golden Eagles scoreless through six innings.  Though Brockport went ahead in the seventh, the Lasers came back to force extra innings and scored twice in the eigth to seal the victory.

Brockport broke a 0-all tie in the top of the seventh, but Lasell came back to tie once again in the bottom of the stanza, forcing extra innings.  Brockport took a one-run lead once again in the eighth, but Lasell retaliated with two batters scoring to edge the Golden Eagles.

Marissa McHugh (Plymouth, Mass.), Tiffany Perla (Westminster, Mass.), and Kerrie Starkey (Keene, NH) were the three Lasers to score, with Jackie Saluti (Braintree, Mass.) earning two  RBI's and Tricia Culver (Northampton, Mass.) recording the third RBI. 

In the nightcap, Lasell faced Plymouth State University, falling 5-1 to the Panthers.  Jackie Loseff (Point Pleasant, NJ) allowed just two hits and struck out four in seven innings on the mound for the Lasers.

The Panthers tallied two runs in the third, followed by the Lasers Heather Rose (West Roxbury, Mass.) marking Lasell's only run, reaching on a error and scoring for a 2-1 deficit in the top of the fourth.  Plymouth scored once more in the fourth and twice in the seventh to fasten their 5-1 victory.

Lasell's Kelly Barden (Quincy, Mass.) went three for three at bat, while Talia Dechiario (Kingston, Mass.), Kelly Silvia (Oaks Bluff, Mass.), Michelle Torres (Waltham, Mass.), and Perla each had a hit in the defeat.

Lasell is back in action on Tuesday against Salem State and Wisconsin-Superior.
