Lasers Secure Double Conference Victory

Newton, Mass.-  Lasell College defeated Albertus Magnus twice on Taylor Field Monday afternoon, leaving the Falcons winless in the conference and boosting the Lasers to 6-2, and 18-11 overall.

In game one, Lasell's starting pitcher Jackie Loseff (Point Pleasant, NJ) pitched a no-hitter through four innings, giving up just one hit in the top of the fifth and no runs.  Loseff also struck out four batters during her time on the mound, as the Lasers won 13-0 in game one.

The Lasers went ahead 10 run in two innings to put the Falcons in an inescapable hole.  Four Lasers got base hits in the first, beginning with Heather Lynch (Warwick,RI) who led off the inning.  Three Lasers were in scoring position when Kirsten Mammola (North Reading,Mass.) came up to bat and brought  Heather Rose (West Roxbury,Mass.) home.  A sacrifice fly by Michelle Torres (Waltham, Mass.) drove in both Jackie Saluti (Braintree,Mass.) and Kelly Barden (Quincy, Mass.) to end with a 4-0 edge in the first.

After two base hits by Kelly Silvia (Oaks Bluff, Mass.) and Kelli Taylor (Medway, Mass.) in the second, Rose tripled scoring both runs and pushing the Lasers further ahead. Rose advancd to home plate on a wild pitch, followed by Torres hammering a triple to center field, which left the Lasers up nine runs.  Torres made her way around the bases scoring on a passed ball.

The Lasers scored their final three runs in the fourth inning, with Marissa McHugh (Plymouth, Mass.) and Amy Doyle (Kingston, Mass.) singling to get on base.  Silvia and Taylor shot back-to-back doubles to center field to knock in Lasell's final runs.

In the top of thefifth, Albertus Magnus got their sole hit of the game by Christina Oddo (East Haven, Conn.) before Lasell made their third out to end the contest.

Ashley Laramie (Lynn, Mass.) produced an RBI double in the first inning of the second game to put the Lasers ahead.  After a scoreless second frame, the Falcons tied the contest with their first run of the day when Liz Piper (Southington, Conn.) had a two-base hit down the left field line.  In the next at-bat, Jessica Neubig (North Haven, Conn.) sent a double to center field to bring Piper to home plate.

However, the stalemate did not last long for the Lasers as they produced 14 runs on 11 hits, and three Falcon errors in the bottom of the same inning.  Rose and Laramie each homered earning two RBI's apiece.  Saluti and Taylor also earned two RBI's each in the inning.

Jennie Beaton (Reading, Mass.) closed out the remaining inning an a half with six quick outs and earning the 15-1 win.  Beaton allowed just three hits and one run in five innings, while striking out two.

Simmons College will travel to Taylor Field on Tuesday, April 14th for a 3:00 GNAC doubleheader with the Lasers.
